Abstract
There are several tendencies concerning the basic formation of designers worldwide. In some cases, it's considered something necessary while, in other cases, unnecessary and even harmful. At the Higher Institute of Design, in Cuba, it's been assumed as something very important the time of basic formation common to all Industrial and visual communication designers, being a strength at the institution. This work deals with the characteristics of the Basic Course for The Higher Institute of Industrial Design and it's also about some methodological strategies of interest that are applied as a result of more than fifteen years of experience.
