Abstract
In colonial Cuba, in the vicinity of Puerto Carenas, the current port of Havana; the economic flourishing, prosperity and wealth that mainly moved in the capital city were directly linked to trade by sea, for which vessels with very specific characteristics were very necessary for transatlantic navigation and in our adjacent seas.
Not only commercial vessels, war vessels were also essential to protect the fleets that moved the wealth looted from this side of the ocean, since both types of ships made up large convoys to face the challenge of delivering them to the Spanish crown in safe ports.
Various models of boats (commercial, war, passenger transport, recreational, etc.) were designed and built in the Havana shipyard, which had, without a doubt, the best woods and the best riverbank carpenters, including the metropolis and all the colonies in the area.
Our initial presentation is directed towards the approach of the different models of boats and their more efficient use in socio-economic or defensive activities, in the interest of being included in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in future improvements of plans and programs.
